In 2006 Year 13 student, Paul Brock claimed top honours in a University of New South Wales Mathematics competition – first in New Zealand. Annually there are 1.7 million entries for the International Competitions and Assessment for Schools (ICAS), across Australia and 12 other countries. Paul is currently in his final year of a Commerce Degree at Auckland University. Paul spent his entire school life at Immanuel Christian School, even returning as a university student to teach Mathematics part time for a couple of years.
Sonia Prahash, a past pupil at Immanuel Christian School, scored the top mark in New Zealand in the ICAS English exam for Year 7 in 2007. Sonia skipped Year 8 and instead studied Year 9 work in 2008. In the same year she came top of New Zealand in ICAS Year 9 Maths. Sonia in 2009 studied at Year 12 level and gained Level 2 NCEA credits with Excellence, 2 years ahead of schedule.
Note:
- High distinction is awarded to the top 1% of candidates
- Distinction is awarded to the next top 10% of candidates after high distinction
- Credit is awarded to the next top 20% after distinction and high distinction
- The many participation grades are a consequence of Immanuel entering all students in ICAS, not just the most academically able.
