  • Peter Slaney - Principal

    Peter Slaney - Principal

    BSc, Dip Tchg, B.Applied Theol.

    Peter completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Auckland University and then completed a Diploma in Secondary Teaching.  Peter began his teaching career at Pakuranga College, where he taught science and physics, then spent four years at Waitakere College as Head of Physics.  Peter and his wife Lynda have 2 young children at Immanuel, where Peter has taught since 2001.  In 2008 he completed a bachelor of Applied Theology at Carey Baptist College.  Peter began in the role of Principal of Immanuel Christian School at the beginning of 2010.

    Vicki has been teaching since 2000 and is presently enjoying leading the Interact curriculum development within the school. She is passionate about growing students spiritually, academically and socially. When she is not at school, she enjoys tennis, watching movies and drinking coffee with good friends.  Prior to teaching at Immanuel Vicki taught at Bethlehem College.

  • Matthew Leigh-Hunt

    Years 7 & 8

    Matthew Leigh-Hunt

    BA, PGCE, TESOL

    Matthew specialised in teaching Sociology and Religious Studies, and taught in the UK for 4 years before coming to New Zealand.  He has experienced life on the mission field in Kenya, East Africa and has worked in church worship development both in the UK and New Zealand.  Since coming to New Zealand he has worked in the ESOL industry, and was Assistant Director for a Christian Study Abroad Programme based in the USA that focused on Creation and Environmental issues.  He is married to Hannah, a local Kiwi, and has a daughter, Isabella.

    Debra trained at Auckland College of Education and has taught in a number of schools before coming to Immanuel.  Her life experience was enriched by working in Tonga for seven years.  She loves to see children growing in their love for God and developing their potential in all areas of life.  She also enjoys gardening, having coffee with friends and walking along the beach with Kevin and their dog. 

  • Sarah Thomson

    Sarah Thomson

    B.Ed Tchg Primary

    Sarah completed a Bachelor of Education at Auckland College of Education.  Her first teaching position in 2000 was at Marshall Laing Primary School then at Konini Primary School.  Sarah enjoys music, aerobics, going to the beach and spending time with family and friends.

  • Jo Duxfield

    Jo's first appointment after leaving Auckland Teachers College was to Oratia Primary. After 8 years there, she left to have a family. As her family have grown up, she has relieved in many schools in West Auckland and has also spent time overseas running an expat kindergarten.  Jo has been involved at Immanuel since 1998 both as a  teacher and a parent.  Jo teaches 3 days per week and job-shares with Carol.

  • Carol Burgess

    New Entrants & Year 1

    Carol gained her qualifications in South Africa before she and her husband moved to New Zealand in 1993.  She has taught at a variety of schools both in South Africa and New Zealand.  She has also tutored at Kip McGrath and is a trained SPELD tutor.  She and her husband have two children.  Carol job-shares with Jo.

  • Linda Baird

     B.Ed, Dp Tchg

    Linda teaches one day a week, covering Vicki's class so she can carry out duties as Deputy Principal.  Linda has been teaching since 1996, mostly in middle and senior Primary levels.  She and Jason have recently served as missionaries in India where Linda home-schooled her older two daughters.  Linda is involved in worship and youth ministries.

  • Sarah Rauch

    B. Mus.  Dip Tchg, ATCL Musical Theatre (Trinity Guildhall London)

    Sarah is an avid Performing Arts enthusiast.  From ballet to violin, she wants to encourage students in drama, dance and music.  Teaching for over a decade in the Performing Arts, she specialises in classroom music and is having a blast!

  • Helen Wassenaar

    T Dip WP

    Helen has been teaching typing at Immanuel for over 10 years.  She has been involved with the school since its inception and is passionate about Christian Education.  Arnout and Helen’s three boys have all gone through Immanuel.

  • Judi Henderson

    Years 9-12

    Judi Henderson

    BA, Dip Tchg, Certificate in Careers Counseling

    Judi is a past parent at Immanuel and all 4 of her children attended the school. In 2010 she is teaching Years 9 and 10 English, Devotions, Geography and History.  She is passionate about history, education and Biblical World View.

  • Rachel Robinson

    Year 9 & 10 Art

     Rachel has previously taught for ten years at two Integrated Christian Schools. She has had the privilege of teaching New Entrant up to Year 11 students. Rachel is passionate about art, and likes to bring creativity into all her teaching. Rachel enjoys reading, cooking, painting and creating things, going to the beach and spending time with her husband Hayden and their two sons.
